Chacra
CATHERINE BAUER
13 de November al 19 de December de 2009 Headquarters Santiago
In the display Chacra from the artist Catherine Bauer, presents a work of large-scale, carried out collectively with a group of women in the Weaving Workshop of The House of the Woman Huamachuco, in the commune of Renca. This project arises after a process of learning and training in the technique of crochet, and the artist has developed over these last few years, and from which has developed a series of graphic works, which is also present in the exhibition.
The work problematizes by means of tissue, the relationship between art, craftsmanship, trade and technical. For this the change in the scale of this activity, associated with the household, a particular experience and the collective in which there is an exchange between 8 to 10 women of various ages and realities.
At the beginning of 2009 starts at the tissue under a defined work program; each woman receives a cylinder (1 kilo of pitilla nylon) that should work in a concentric way, once you have completed the first stage begin to join together two by two and then four and so on. In the process, the work is taking unexpected ways, each hand generates a different surface to the other, the mantle grows and joints require great efforts.
Chacra (the quechua word for farm) is a configuration abstract, an outline of units that are associated with it and stick together. A synthetic image that you create to reveal the context in which it was done and makes it his main working material and its argument.
